Ironman Maryland First Time Finisher

By Alyssa Morrison Leave a Comment

Wow, my training really paid off and the quality of the coaching and plan you’ve provided me paid off, including the continued prodding on nutrition. 🙂   I know that anything can happen on race day and I’ve been the person in bad shape on the run as recently as June. But, yesterday, I felt strong throughout the race and, despite the conditions, nothing that prevented me from racing as planned.

What I particularly valued about the training (other than, obviously, the fact that I’m in shape to do this race), was that I had the tools I needed to handle what came at me without wondering if I was doing the right thing.  My brain was not programmed on racing “full speed” no matter the distance like I was in the past.   I needed to have automatic responses to things that happened.  I had those responses in my toolkit. ~Busy attorney, First time IM finisher with every poor weather condition thrown at her during race day

I want to give you a big thank you…Your advice on nutrition, the basic outline of your training plan, and your positive attitude have gone a long way from making me a mid-pack runner, to blowing away my goals! Total mileage was 105.75 and I won the race! ~Mother of two, business owner and winner of multiple ultra races

North Face Endurance 50 Mile Third Place Overall Female

A final little nod to your training plan….Last year on this course I ran a 10:07 (however I think I missed a 3 mile out and back). This year I ran a 9:27 (but did the 3 mile out and back).   I think this makes it an even bigger PR than it seems!  Thanks for the great plan! ~North Face Endurance Challenge third place overall female, mother of two and owner of her own small business (I don’t think anyone can be busier!)NF Lindsey

Referral Testimonial

I’d like to introduce you to my coach and mentor, Alyssa Morrison (AJ). I’ve been working with her for about three years now, and she just helped me through my first 50 miler.  AJ and I have worked through a lot together over the last several years – everything from Olympic triathlons, Ironmans, marathons, and now ultras.
I cannot endorse Alyssa enough. When I met her three years ago, my body was in shambles as an athlete, and I almost felt like walking away from racing. In a very big sense, she saved me. Since she comes from an occupational therapy background, she understands a bit more about the body and balance than all other coaches with whom I have worked. She’s certified in everything you could ever want/desire in a coach, and has been selected to partake in some very exclusive certification programs. She is an extremely accomplished athlete in her own right  – but always has the business savvy and acumen to always put her clients first. In short, she’s one of the best–and most connected–in the area. I could go on for a while, but you get the idea. She’s simply one of the best people I have in my life.

End of the Season Testimonial

Alyssa,  I want to thank you from the bottom of my toe clips for this amazing season.  I have worked so hard and done so well.  You were a huge driver for the whole effort.  You set the bar high, and I always felt that I never really achieved it.  As well as I did, you always had a push.  As you congratulate me, you also point out how I can improve.  And yet, you have always made me feel like a winner in life.  A winner at the whole game.  Your pushing on healthy living, weight and training all helped me see a bigger picture.  And the picture got big!  I am proud of myself. And so grateful to you.  Thank you.  ~Corporate VP & father of two finding the balance in his life and qualifying for USAT National Championships for the first time

“A reminder that nothing in this sport is ever accomplished individually. I am thankful to have the most patient, encouraging, and understanding wife an athlete could ever hope for…as well as an amazing masterful coach who never loses her faith in me. @kazimiera81 and Alyssa Morrison – I am thankful and lucky to have you both in my life.” ~Blazing fast, budding ultra runner finishing JFK 50 on the top of the leader board

This morning the recap quickly eased into a description of effort and result.  The most significant outcome of the entire endeavor was not mentioned.  Good coaching and focused training enabled me to realize a HIM outcome which enables me to consider the possibility of age group competitive success next season at HIM.  A remarkable transition from this years apprehension.  A truly successful tri season. ~CIO, father of 1 child and crushing his 60-64 AG

Here is the article I was telling you about on ‘what makes a good coach and how to pick the right one.’ Look at the five ‘traits.’ You are a 12 on a scale of 1 to 10. And they don’t mention empathy, compassion, intelligence and character or ‘soft like steel.’ That’s my coach. 🙂 ~Highly motivated, emerging athlete that entered the sport of triathlon at 52 years oldIMG_7319
